# Fronts and hardware

Doors and drawer fronts hang in front of an opening. The app computes their sizes, the drawer boxes and the hardware it can name. Hardware is nominal: a length, not a product.

## Tasks

### Which drawer slides does the app know? I want a 500 mm EHCT50.
1. Select a drawer face and open **Part settings** › **Advanced drawer construction**.
2. Set **Runner length / box depth**. The list gives the 14 catalogue lengths from 250 to 600 mm, and only those that fit this carcass.
3. Set **Runner side clearance** to the value the slide maker states (12.5 mm is common).
The box depth becomes the runner length. No make, model, load rating or screw hole is stored, so the app cannot name the EHCT50. Set 500 mm and the clearance, then buy that slide.

### Why is the drawer face 636 mm and the door beside it 634 mm?
Each face is sized from its own opening and its own gaps, so read both features first.
- Doors: **Cover more (overlay)** (the default) passes each opening edge by **Perimeter gap** (2 mm); **Stay inside (inset)** stays that far inside; **Cover the edges (full overlay)** covers the boards. Two leaves split that width and leave **Internal gap** between them.
- Drawers: with no saved position, the face is the opening − 2 × **Runner side clearance**. With a position set, it follows the door rule, but its **Perimeter gap** is 0 mm unless the position is full overlay.
So a door and a drawer face in the same column often differ by a few millimetres. Set **Door and drawer position** = **Cover the edges (full overlay)** on both, with one **Perimeter gap**, for one even grid.

### Which hinges?
**Cup hinge**, per leaf: 2 up to 900 mm high, 3 to 1600, 4 to 2000, 5 above, and one more when the leaf is wider than 600 mm. The cup is Ø35 mm, 12 mm deep, 22 mm from the hinge edge. Centres start 100 mm from each end and are evenly spaced.
A leaf 12 mm or thinner, 200 mm high or less, or with a frame stile under 39.5 mm gets no cup drilling. A framed leaf then lists **Hinge to suit the door frame**. No hinge side is stored.

### What gap stays between the fronts?
Doors: **Perimeter gap** 2 mm and **Internal gap** 2 mm. Drawers: **Gap** 2 mm between faces, and **Vertical/front clearance** 1.5 mm around the box. A gap between two fronts in one plane under 1.5 mm shows a design warning.

### Can the top doors be one door that opens upwards?
No lift-up or flap front exists, and no stay. Keep one leaf (**Count** 1) and treat it as a flap: buy the flap hinge and stay yourself, ignore the **Cup hinge** line, and check that the leaf clears what is in front of it.

### How do I make sliding doors?
No control in the panel; set them with `edit`. Doors, **Side by side**, **Cover more (overlay)**, 1 or 2 leaves, no **Internal gap**. **Sliding door track** takes a length, at least the covered width, and adds two generic tracks: the app knows no track system.

### How do I make a framed glass door?
Set **Door style** = **Frame for glass** and **Frame width** (60 mm by default). Each leaf becomes four boards around an open centre, and **Glass pane** gives that opening. The glazier needs the rebate.

### How do I set unequal drawer heights?
**Part settings** › **Drawer front heights** gives one height per drawer, from the top. Type one and the others change in proportion; **Equalize** makes them even.

### Where do I see the hardware and the drawer sizes?
**Assemble** › step card: **Hardware for this step**, the **Hardware** list, **Hang the drawer** (slide length, height, setback, side room) and **Hang the doors** (cup drilling). **Menu** › **Export** › **Report / PDF** prints the same table with a model.

### How do I choose handles?
Each door leaf lists one **Handle**. A drawer lists one unless **Pull style** = **Open hand access**, which opens a **Hand-access gap** of 50 mm instead. No handle is drawn or drilled; the app only counts it.

## Facts

- Drawer box: six boards. Width = opening − 2 × **Runner side clearance**; height = face band − 2 × **Vertical/front clearance**; depth = runner length.
- **Drawer front heights** are visible front bands, not clear box heights.
- **Drawer slides** names the largest 50 mm step below the box depth, up to 600 mm: a 480 mm box lists 450 mm.
- Four screws per drawer face, driven from inside, shorter than box front plus face.
- A framed leaf takes one hinge set and one handle, not four.

## What the assistant does itself

- Use `read` for the opening, face and box sizes, and `edit` for fit, gaps, count, heights, runner length or sliding doors.
- Count hinges, slides and screws with the rules above; the hardware list is only in **Assemble**.
- You cannot click, download or print, and you cannot see **Assemble**.
