# Building furniture by hand

The Model workspace builds furniture without the assistant. Draw boards, fill open spaces, start from a template or a sketch, and reuse a module. Each change is one undo step.

## Tasks

### How do I add a shelf or a divider?

Use the 2D plan in the front view, with **Select** or **Board**.

1. Click an open space. The offer shows **Open space** and its clear size.
2. Press **Shelf** or **Divider**. The board spans the opening and stops on the faces around it.
3. Drag its line, or type the clear gap on either side of it.

A double click adds a shelf; a third click turns it into a divider. On a phone, tap twice and three times. Click more spaces to fill them all in one step. The offer also gives **Door** and **Drawers** where a front fits, and **Back** when the furniture has no back. A space that takes no board gives the reason, and no button. A right click in an open space shows the same offer.

### How do I split a space into equal parts?

1. Click a space that boards close on all four sides.
2. Press **Divide…**, then **Rows** or **Columns**.
3. Pick a count from 2 to 8. A count that does not fit is disabled.
4. Press the apply button. It names the count.

A see-through preview shows the result before you commit.

### Can I draw the furniture by hand?

1. Press **Sketch** in the 2D toolbar, or **Add** › **Sketch** (key D). The view goes to the front.
2. Draw one outer rectangle, then shelves as horizontal lines and dividers as vertical lines. A diagonal is a door, a dash is a drawer, a scribble removes.
3. Press **Interpret sketch** in the sketch bar.
4. Check the review, then press **Create furniture**.

The pen also edits a cabinet in place: a line adds a board, a diagonal a door, a dash a drawer. A table, a frame of loose boards or a drawn box is refused.

### How do I draw one board?

Press **Board** in the 2D toolbar (key B) and drag. The ends stop on board faces and snap to corners and to other boards. The board takes the default thickness; change it in the right panel after the drag.

### How do I start from a ready design?

- **Add** › **Furniture catalogue**: 12 templates at standard sizes. Every board stays editable. A template is added to the right of your model, not in place of it.
- **Add** › **Cabinet by measurements** (Shift + D): type the size, the front, the interior and the construction, then press **Add furniture**. The recipe row applies trade sizes.
- **Add** › **Table by measurements**: a frame, legs and a top at your numbers.

### How do I save a module to reuse it?

1. Select a board of the module.
2. In the right panel, under its settings, press **Save to my furniture**.
3. Type a name and press **Save**.

**Add** › **Furniture catalogue** shows **My furniture** at the top. Press **Insert** to add a copy; **Rename** and **Delete** sit on the same row. One entry holds one module, and entries stay in this browser.

### How do I copy a module to the side?

1. Select a board of the module.
2. In the right panel, open **Advanced** › **Repeat and mirror**.
3. Set **Total modules**, **Gap** and **Direction**. The count includes the module you selected.
4. Press **Repeat**. Each copy is a separate module.

**Mirror to left** and **Mirror to right** reflect the module instead. A turned module cannot be repeated or mirrored.

### How do I make the gaps equal?

Select three or more boards of one row, or a whole piece, then press **Make symmetric** in the right panel footer. The two outer boards stay and every clear gap between them becomes equal. The button appears only when a board would move.

### How do I use loose boards?

- **Make furniture** in the right panel footer turns touching loose boards into one cabinet with the same boards. They need one thickness and one material; the outer boards also need one depth. A tilted, shaped or excluded board is refused, and doors and drawer faces in the front half stay loose. A frame off by up to half a board thickness is squared, and a notice says by how much.
- **Convert to independent board** frees one generated board at the same size and place.
- In **Select**, a small round button inside each L corner of the selection gives the corner to the other board.

### How do I add a back panel?

Select a board and press **Add back panel** in the right panel footer, or **Back** in an open space. The back is 6 mm (1/4 in), fixed outside the rear edges and as large as the furniture. The button appears only when the furniture has no back.

### How do I add the fridge to check the fit?

No appliance button exists. Ask the assistant for a fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer, sink, hob, hood or wall. It adds a translucent reference box that shows in 2D, 3D and its renders, and never enters the cut list. The assistant sets its size.

### How do I give a module a named size?

1. Select a board of the module. In the right panel, press **Parameters** beside **Size**.
2. Press **Add parameter**, type the name and the length, then **Save**.
3. Type `=name` or `=height - 36 mm` in the width, height or depth of the module.

The field then follows the parameter. A typed number stops the formula. Up to 40 parameters, and one formula takes 200 characters. A parameter that a module uses cannot be removed.

### How do I tilt a board?

Select a loose board and set **Tilt** in its position section: -45° to 45°. A positive value drops the front edge. Fabivo does not check a tilted board.

## Facts

- A drawn board takes the default thickness, 18 mm. The quick buttons offer 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 19 and 25 mm; in inches 1/4 to 1 in, default 3/4 in.
- The open-space offer works only in the front view of the 2D plan.
- On a phone, **Add** in the top bar opens the tool drawer with the add menu; the right panel becomes a bottom sheet.

## What the assistant does itself

- It builds and edits the model with its own tools: boards, shelves, dividers, doors, drawers, a back, a tilt, reference boxes, more modules.
- It measures a clear opening and counts sheets from your stock.
- It cannot click, download, print or install, cannot save to **My furniture**, and cannot see the Plan, Cut or Assemble screens.
