A 1,500 mm bookcase from one sheet

This open bookcase is 900 mm wide and 1,500 mm tall, with a 320 mm depth. 2 shelves make 3 openings of 476 mm. With the atlas settings, the optimizer uses 1 sheet. The cut list and the model are below.

The piece

The frame has two sides, a top, a bottom and 2 shelves. It has no back, doors or plinth. The 1,500 mm height puts the top shelf at eye level for many people; measure your room before you choose it.

The model uses a 900 mm wide cabinet shell and a two-shelf pattern. The boards are 18 mm plywood. The clear width between the sides is 864 mm.

The one-sheet constraint

This exact model and these settings uses 1 sheet of 2440 × 1220 mm. The same frame with 3 shelves uses 2 sheets. That is a measured boundary in the atlas, not a guarantee for another size or another saw.

The optimizer reports 30.6% waste and 9 cuts. Waste includes the kerf, the edge trim and unused areas; it may leave several remnants, and not every one is usable. The app shows the sheet and the remaining pieces.

The sides are 1,500 × 320 mm. Check that your sheet and your saw can cut that length after the edge trim. The atlas uses 5 mm trim on every edge.

The unit is 1,500 mm tall. Fix it to the wall. The model has no anti-tip device and no back.

  • Width: 900 mm outside; 864 mm clear between the sides.
  • Height: 1,500 mm outside; 3 clear openings of 476 mm.
  • Depth: 320 mm; check the depth of your books.
  • Sheet use: 1 sheet with 2 shelves; 2 sheets with 3 shelves.

The measured cut list

6 boards. Sizes are the finished board sizes from the model. All boards are 18 mm plywood. The atlas uses a 3 mm kerf, 5 mm edge trim and grain along the long edge; no part is rotated.

The cutting plan

The optimizer uses 1 sheet with these settings, 30.6% waste and 9 cuts. The only sheet is below. The app shows the numbered cut order.

Before you cut

Check the wall fixing and the 1,500 mm height. A tall open unit can tip; the model has no anti-tip device.

Check the shelf span and the joints. This page measures sheet use, not structural strength. It is not a load rating.

Set the real sheet size, thickness and kerf in the app before you buy material. The atlas result uses a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet, a 3 mm kerf and 5 mm edge trim.

The open frame has no back. A back adds a board and changes the one-sheet result; the atlas does not measure that version.

Frequently asked questions

Is it always one sheet?

No. This exact model and these settings uses 1 sheet. A wider, deeper or taller model can use more. The atlas table shows the measured cases.

What happens with a third shelf?

The same frame with 3 shelves uses 2 sheets in the atlas. The clear opening falls from 476 mm to 352.5 mm. Check that height for your books.

Can I add a back?

Yes in the app. A back is a separate board and changes the cut list and the sheet result. The atlas measures the open version only.
