An open shoe shelf with 3 openings of 276 mm

This open shoe shelf is 900 mm wide and 900 mm tall, with a 320 mm depth. 2 shelves make 3 openings of 276 mm. With the atlas settings, the optimizer uses 1 sheet. The cut list and the model are below.

The piece

The open frame lets shoes air and keeps them visible. It has no back, doors or plinth. The 320 mm depth takes many shoes; longer boots can overhang.

The model uses a 900 mm wide cabinet shell and a two-shelf pattern. The boards are 18 mm plywood. The clear width between the sides is 864 mm.

The shoe constraint

The clear opening is 276 mm high. Measure the tallest shoes and boots. The 320 mm depth is the second limit; a longer boot will stand proud of the shelf.

With 2 shelves the optimizer uses 1 sheet. With 3 shelves it uses 2 sheets and leaves a 202.5 mm clear opening. The extra shelf is the measured threshold.

This is a shoe shelf, not a bench. The atlas measures sheet use, not seating loads, and the model has not been tested as a seat.

The clear width is 864 mm. Two pairs of wide shoes can fit side by side, but measure the pairs you own.

  • Width: 900 mm outside; 864 mm clear between the sides.
  • Height: 900 mm outside; 3 clear openings of 276 mm.
  • Depth: 320 mm; measure longer boots before you cut.
  • Sheet use: 1 sheet with 2 shelves; 2 sheets with 3 shelves.

The measured cut list

6 boards. Sizes are the finished board sizes from the model. All boards are 18 mm plywood. The atlas uses a 3 mm kerf, 5 mm edge trim and grain along the long edge; no part is rotated.

The cutting plan

The optimizer uses 1 sheet with these settings, 43.5% waste and 9 cuts. The first sheet is below. The app shows the cut order and the remaining pieces.

Before you cut

Measure the tallest shoes and the longest boots. The clear height is 276 mm and the shelf depth is 320 mm.

Do not use the shelf as a seat. The model is not a bench and the atlas does not test seating loads.

Fix the unit to the wall if it can be pushed. The model has no anti-tip device and no back.

Set the real sheet size, thickness and kerf in the app before you buy material. The atlas result uses a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet, a 3 mm kerf and 5 mm edge trim.

Frequently asked questions

Will boots fit?

Measure them. The clear opening is 276 mm high and the shelf is 320 mm deep; a longer boot will overhang.

Why not add a third shelf?

The atlas measures that version too: 3 shelves use 2 sheets and leave 202.5 mm clear. Choose it if that height suits your shoes.

Can I sit on it to put shoes on?

No. The model is not a bench. Use a seat that is designed and tested for that load.
